Frank Poems: A FUNNY OLD BIRD

Wikipedia. Photo: Sumeet Moghe.

The Secretary is a funny old bird:

he doesn’t write minutes or send out an agenda

and considers the committee completely absurd,

so when it meets he’s always in absentia.

That’s right: neither the minutes nor the agenda –

he’s out and about, harried by hunger,

so when the committee meets, he’s always in absentia.

In fact, his title’s a total misnomer.

He’s out and about, driven by hunger,

hunting for insects and vertebrates.

His title is really a total misnomer:

in Latin, S. Serpentarius is how it translates.

He’s a hunter of insects and vertebrates,

festooned in feathers, with long legs and sharp beak.

In Latin, Sagittarius S. is how his title translates.

He’s four foot three from head to feet.

Festooned in feathers, with long legs and sharp beak,

he considers the committee completely absurd.

Only four foot three from head to feet,

the Secretary is a funny old bird.
